Just For Laughs Catalog Sold Due To Bankruptcy Filing

2024 is a noteworthy year for Just For Laughs. With the exception of 2020, this is the first year that Just For Laughs won’t be holding court in Montreal since it first started. This is amid the organization that puts in the annual festival filing for bankruptcy back in March. This is something we covered in depth here.

Now, we’ve got some more news to share. Just For Laughs has officially sold off their entire back catalog of stand-up performances. This includes virtually everything that was witnessed at the festival from the 1980’s until last year. It all adds up to nearly 1,000 titles total.

What does this mean for the future of the Just For Laughs comedy festival?

It was acquired by Amuz Distribution, which is the parent company of ComediHa!. This is the direct result of Groupe Juste Pour Rire Inc. - that puts on Just For Laughs - agreeing to sell off their assets as part of the bankruptcy protection process.

Carlos Pacheco has been put in charge of distributing the back catalog by Amuz. Amuz Distribution said in a statement, “His experience in the global marketplace and especially as a leader in the OTT space will help us reach the company’s next level.”

What this means for the future of JFL remains to be seen. Our hope is that the festival can return stronger than ever in 2025!
