All this month, Montreal comedy festival Just For Laughs is hosting hundreds of shows in theaters across the Canadian city, with a particularly heavy schedule the last week of July (mainly, the 23rd through the 30th).
The JFL lineup is always highly anticipated, and always growing, even as the fest gets underway, and this year is no different. Headliners like Jerry Seinfeld, Judd Apatow, Ali Wong, Trevor Noah, John Mulaney, Ron Funches, Chris D'Elia, Mike Birbiglia, and Joel McHale -- and festival favorites like The Ethnic Show and The Nasty Show -- were announced in JFL's initial lineup reveal, but the programming is far from finished, as evidenced by several recent rounds of schedule updates.
JFL's latest additions include:
- Tony-award winning actress and 30 Rock alum Jane Krakowski's fest debut as host of The Jane Krakowski Gala
- Current Weekend Update co-hosts reuniting during the off-season to present The Colin Joe & Michael Che Gala
- A special edition of The Bodega Boys Live! with podcast hosts Desus Nice and The Kid Mero
- The cheekily-titled Ari Shaffir's Renamed Storytelling Show (no word on whether Roy Wood Jr. will host a live edition of This Is Not Happening)
- The return of comedy insider panel show The Green Room with Paul Provenza
- Several nights of stand-up showcase The Masters, hosted by Todd Barry
- A panel with the cast and producers of Superior Donuts, including Jermaine Fowler, Judd Hirsch, Katey Sagal, and Maz Jobrani
- Jeff Ross presents Stand-Up On The Spot with Jeremiah Watkins, adapted from the hit Los Angeles-based live show
- Even more podcast recordings, including "Ari Shaffir's Skeptic Tank," Yamaneika Saunders' "Rantin & Ravin," and Marina Franklin's "Friends Like Us"
- OFF-JFL hours from Ali Siddiq, Maz Jobrani, Aunty Donna, Jessica Kirson, Dov Davidoff, Mo Amer, Brent Morin, and Orny Adams
- And, after three quick sellouts, the fest has added an additional show from stand-up Vir Das
Plus, the full lineup of the esteemed Variety's 10 Comics to Watch showcase has been announced; this year's crop of up-and-comers includes Desus and Mero (who will also host the event), Vir Das, Jesus Trejo, Liza Treyger, Esther Povitsky, Rhea Butcher, and Brian Jordan Alvarez.
