Justin Roiland is facing domestic battery charges

Justin Roiland, co-creator of Rick and Morty, is reportedly facing domestic battery charges.

NBC News broke the story today that the charges are stemming from a 2020 incident that started on January 19th, with the initial criminal complaint being filed in May.

Though the specific details are not enclosed, Jane Doe – a pseudonym – is charging Roiland with “one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit.” Roiland was arrested in August of 2020 and released on a $50,000 bond.

Roiland reportedly pleaded not guilty to both counts in October 2020. There have since been more than a dozen court hearings, including pre-trial. But a date for the trial has not yet been set, but the next hearing will be on April 27th.

There is, however, a protective order in place stating that Roiland “is not to harass, threaten or surveil the person named in the protective order.”
