Just a few weeks back, Kevin Smith almost lost his life as he suffered a massive heart attack on the same night he happened to be taping a comedy special. In between the Comedy Dynamics-produced tapings of the first and second shows, Smith started to show signs that he was in trouble and was rushed to a hospital, canceling his second show but having his life saved.
This week, Smith made the announcement that the special that he did tape that evening was sold to Showtime. Titled, Silent But Deadly for a few reasons will premiere on Friday, May 11th at 9pm.
As Smith was unaware of the imminent danger he was in so Silent But Deadly plays off light as Smith riffs on everything like marriage, fatherhood, friends and his work (or lack thereof). "After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack," Smith revealed the next day on social media, adding "The doctor who saved my life told me I had 100 percent blockage of my LAD artery (aka “the widow-maker”). If I hadn’t canceled show two to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground!"
The heart attack forced Smith to do something about his health and just a month later he had lost 20 pounds and was working toward getting back on track.
