Nothing quite brings people together like music and comedy. At least that’s what happened last night in Los Angeles.
Middle Aged Dad Jam Band started out in David Wain’s garage. Wain - best known for his work with The State and director of films like Wet Hot American Summer and Role Models - started jamming with his friends during COVID, and that led to starting a band. Included in that band is lead singer and The State co-star Ken Marino, as well as Jon Spurney, Frank Barrera, Jordan Katz, Sweet Teddy P, Craig Wedren, Henry Wain, Jessica McKenna, Kestrin Pantera, Allie Stamler, and Nadia Quinn.
Last night, the band got together at their usual location, Lodge Room in Highland Park. This time, it was for a very good cause, which was to support those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year. The night supported two charities: United Way of Greater Los Angeles Wildfire Response Fund and Pasadena Community Foundation Eaton Fire Relief and Recovery Fund.
As for what the night itself had in store, it was three hours of solid performances from the band and super special guests. Joining the band on various songs throughout the night was Joe Lo Truglio, Lisa Gilroy, Malin Ackerman, Nick Thune, Rachel Bloom, Will Forte, Weird Al Yankovic, Randall Park, Taran Killam, and Thomas Lennon. The night also featured stand-up from Jeff Ross and Moshe Kasher.
Among the highlights from the performers included Rachel Bloom’s rendition of Time Warp, Weird Al Yankovic getting everyone riled up with 867-5309/Jenny, Randall Park showing off his rap skills in the middle of It Had To Be You, and Will Forte knocking it out of the park with Touch Me by The Doors. Taran Killam also opened up to the crowd, sharing why the night was special for him. He had been one of those directly impacted by the fires and wound up losing his home. He tearfully thanked everyone for their support before singing What’s Up?.
Overall, it was a successful night for a super great cause, with over $41,000 raised. To those who missed it, you can still donate here and even watch the livestream here.
And if you ever have a chance to catch the band in person, we highly recommend it. You’ll be in for a treat!
