Word on the street is that NBC is looking to turn Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment into a weekly stand alone show.
The network is in talks to make Update a half hour show that would air on Thursday nights. While NBC has often run Thursday SNL specials (usually around a holiday or major event) the idea would be to make the show weekly, and in theory compete with the likes of Samantha Bee or John Oliver. No word on how it will effect the Saturday version of the segment.
