The Lonely Island drop the "Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience" on Netflix

Yesterday The Lonely Island teased that they would drop something on Netflix at 12 midnight. What it was, nobody was exactly sure. The only clue the rap-comedy trio left us was that it was to be a "visual poem."

We all patiently waited until midnight and they dropped something we didn't even know we were missing in our lives but now that we're aware we can't help but wonder how we ever lived without it. The visual poem was a 30 minute Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience. Because The Lonely Island can no longer be contained to a 4 minute music video anymore.

Any baseball fan of the late 80s knows the story about Jose Canseco and Mark Mcgwire from the Oakland A's and their quest to win the World Series which they did in 1989. The Lonely Island put together a dizzying hypercolor experience about the two ball players starting with a boombastic hip-hop machismo that decends into crippling doubt that follows an extremely loose story of the duo as they struggle with celebrity, steroids scandals, losing the 1988 World Series and mount a comeback to win it in 1989.

The special begins by telling us “In 1988, Major League Baseball was set aflame by Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire, aka The Bash Brothers.“They were known for their towering home runs and mind-bending play, but what many don’t know... Is that they recorded an album… of raps.”

It's wonderfully goofy in the most Lonely Island way possible and features cameos from the likes of Sterling K Brown, Hannah Simone, Jenny Slate, Haim, Stephanie Beatriz, Maya Rudolph, and Jim O'Heir.

Put it in your Netflix list now.
