John Mulaney and Nick Kroll made a "lateral move" yesterday and hosted the Film Independent Spirit Awards this weekend airing on IFC. The duo pulled out some of their Oh, Hello! report for the opening monologue. One that skewered some of Hollywood celebs and was political in the most sly of ways. When addressed the liberal leaning of the night, they gave the perfect summation by stating, "We're not in a bubble, we're in a tent [on the beach]. ... If this room leaned anymore to the left, we would literally topple into the Pacific Ocean."
But perhaps one of the funniest burns came when the duo discussed political statements while accepting awards. "Some of you may be planning on making a political statement during your speech, and that is your right. But bear in mind we're on IFC and this is the Spirit Awards, so in terms of impact, you can either deliver it straight to camera or whisper it to yourself in the bathroom."
