Later this month, in addition to hosting several hundred shows featuring the funniest performers from around the world, Montreal's Just for Laughs festival will present the 2017 edition of the JFL Awards, honoring a handful of comic minds at the top of their game. In six categories, the awards recognize those currently making exceptional contributions to the scene, and those who have spent their entire careers shaping the comedy world at large. This year's recipients are:
Comedy Person of the Year: Trevor Noah
Generation Award: Jim Carrey
Stand-Up Comedian of the Year: Mike Birbiglia
Breakout Comedy Star of the Year: Ali Wong
Alumni Tribute: Craig Ferguson
Comedy Writer of the Year: Kenya Barris
