Details on the new book, Top Five: How High Fidelity Found It’s Rhythm and Became a Cult Movie Classic.
The synopsis of the movie follows “Rob Gordon (John Cusack), the owner of a failing record store in Chicago, where he sells music the old-fashioned way -- on vinyl. Although they have an encyclopedic knowledge of pop music and are consumed by the music scene, it's of no help to Rob, whose needle skips the love groove when his long-time girlfriend, Laura (Iben Hjejle), walks out on him. As he examines his failed attempts at romance and happiness, the process finds him being dragged, kicking and screaming, into adulthood.”
In the new book, written by journalist Andrew Buss, readers will discover the conception of the movie from Nick Hornby's novel to the silver screen. Featuring interviews from the film's cast including Jack Black, Iben Hjejle, Sara Gilbert, and key principals behind the scenes including director, Stephen Frears, the movie's screenwriter, producers, Hornby and more.
Together, they offer a multi-perspectival account that captures the legacy of the film, showing how it created an indelible snapshot of '90s culture while anticipating our current era of media surfeit and content overload.
