As reported late last week, Bill Maher announced that he would be bringing back his talk show Real Time With Bill Maher knowingly without his writing staff. Acknowledging that his monologue, desk piece, New Rules segment and other pre-written material would not be included in this new era of “Real Time”.
Well now, he's canceled his plans to bring back the show as originally planned for later this week as he shared this morning on Twitter.
My decision to return to work was made when it seemed nothing was happening and there was no end in sight to this strike. Now that both sides have agreed to go back to the negotiating table I’m going to delay the return of Real Time, for now, and hope they can finally get this…

Bill Maher is the latest among recent talk show hosts canceling their plans to return to work without writers.
Bill Maher is the latest talk show host to follow Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Hudson & others as they're all responding to the backlash from the WGA & writing community in Hollywood this past week to return to talk shows without negotiations being fully met. Plans have been recently set late last week between the Writer's Guild of America & Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to meet for a new round of contract negotiations.
Hopefully this new meeting is a step in the right direction for writers & alike to return to work & get compensated accordingly!
