Recapping Just Some Of What We Saw At D23

Every year, the industry gathers in San Diego, CA for the annual Comic Con. While Comic Con is lots of things, this is also where many of the big studios will make announcements and pushes for what they have on the slate coming up. Well not to be outdone, every two years Disney throws its own giant convention and makes all sorts of announcements and holds panels celebrating all things Disney.

This year, 800 Pound Gorilla News was on hand for D23. Here’s some of the things we saw.

Some of our favorite comedy shows on display at this year's D23.

The first thing you notice as you walk onto the main show floor is just how much detail has gone into every single booth, activation, and store. There really is something for everyone. Some of our highlights included:

- The Only Murders in the Building Walkthrough

- The Abbott Elementary AVA Fest Carnival

- The Bear Walkthrough

- Famous Vehicles From Movies, TV, and More

Another thing they manage to do very well is bring in all the big guns in terms of talent. As they’ve acquired so much in the last decade between Marvel, Star Wars, Hulu, and Fox, there’s no shortage of giant names. At any given time, you can attend a panel to hear about the latest Disneyland attractions or see a conversation between Matt Groening, Seth MacFarlane, and Mike Judge.

Or on another day, D23 may be paying tribute to one of their own legends who passed away earlier this year. This legend was Richard Sherman, who wrote iconic songs for films like Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Winnie The Pooh, and The Jungle Book, as well as It’s a Small World. This celebration - hosted by John Stamos - featured the likes of Disney CEO Bob Iger, Marvel President Kevin Feige, Leonard Maltin, Hayley Mills, Leslie Ann Warren, and countless others.

One of the biggest strengths we heard about versus Comic Cons is the signings. If you go to any convention, you’re expected to pay lots of money in addition to what it cost to get in there. At D23, you can meet the team behind The Simpsons or get a book signed by a variety of authors, all free of charge. Definitely wish more conventions honored this and became more fan friendly in this way!

There’s way too much to talk about in terms of announcements. Some of our favorites we heard about include:

- Jon Hamm and Bobby Moynihan are starring in a beaver-body swap film called Hoppers.

- Updates for the following forthcoming pproperties: Tron: Ares, Elio, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Andor Season 2, Daredevil: Born Againand countless others.

- Four new episodes of The Simpsons and a holiday special will be produced exclusively for Disney+.

-The Freaky Friday sequel will now be named Freakier Friday.

- And so much more!

It is neat to see just how many different facets of fandom this convention has grown to, thanks to there now being so many different umbrellas under the Disney banner. It truly is an experience for everyone, and if you ever get the chance to attend, we highly recommend it!
