It is with heavy hearts we report the beloved, renowned stand-up comic & Curb Your Enthusiasm actor, Richard Lewis, has passed away at 76.
Lewis died last night at his home in Los Angeles after suffering a heart attack. The news was confirmed by his publicist, Jeff Abraham. In a statement, Abraham shared “His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time.”
The actor previously revealed that he had been living with Parkinson's disease in April of last year.
“For the last three-and-a-half years, I’ve had sort of a rocky time,” he said on social media when sharing his private battle publicly after wrapping Curb‘s 12th season, which would eventually be announced as the final run for the Larry David HBO comedy. Lewis had stepped away from the series in 2021, appearing in only one season 11 episode, and returned for the currently airing final season.
Lewis played a fictionalized version of himself on the highly praised HBO sitcom, where he and David played transplanted New York stand-ups now living in Los Angeles on the HBO comedy.
David shared his own statement following the news of Lewis’ death, writing: “Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me. He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob, and for that I’ll never forgive him.”
