Dex Carvey - a comedian based out of Los Angeles - has passed away at the age of 32. The news was broken by his father, comedy legend Dana Carvey.
Dana Carvey mourns the loss of his son, Dex Carvey.
"Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy," Carvey wrote on Instagram. "Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old. Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things--music, art, film making; comedy--and pursued all of them passionately."
He continued, "It's not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family; his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee."
He ended the post with, "Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever. To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers."
Dex Carvey had followed in his father’s footsteps as a comedian in the last several years, and he was very talented in his own right. He wound up doing gigs with his father, opening for him on several occasions over the years. He then joined his father and his brother, Tomas, who is also a comedian, on a new podcast last year called The Weird Place. The podcast was executive produced by Conan O’Brien and released by his Team Coco podcast network. Earlier this year, he collaborated with B-Side Comics as the voice of a character named Kev.
After the news broke, Dana Carvey took to social media yesterday to share some photos that really showcased who his son was, fighting off some of the negativity in the press.
Our heart goes out to Dex Carvey’s family and friends.
