This hasn’t been your standard presidential election cycle. In years past, each election year saw three Presidential debates occur. This year, it seems as if there will just be two: one with Joe Biden and Donald Trump back in June before Biden dropped out of the race and one with Kamala Harris and Trump last month. Saturday Night Live decided to have some fun with this last night.
"SNL" pokes fun at one less presidential debate with a classic "Family Feud."
In the show’s cold open, they announced that in lieu of a standard third Presidential debate, there will instead be another format: Family Feud. Honestly, any chance to see Kenan Thompson break out his Steve Harvey impression is just fine with us. Plus, it’s a fun way to break up the monotony that can sometimes come from week after week political cold opens.
In the sketch, the Harris side consisted of Harris (Maya Rudolph), Doug Emhoff (Andy Samberg), Tim Walz (Jim Gaffigan), and Joe Biden (Dana Carvey). On the Trump side, it was Trump (James Austin Johnson), Melania Trump (who wasn’t actually there and was just an empty podium), Donald Trump Jr. (Mikey Day), and J.D. Vance (Bowen Yang).
The sketch itself was a pretty funny commentary on both candidates tendencies when answering questions, much to the annoyance of Harvey, who just wants to play the game. We hope to see more of a unique diversion from your standard political cold opens in the weeks to come.
Michael Keaton returns to host SNL this Saturday with musical guest Billie Eilish!
