This Week In Comedy: Jo Koy, who's been a stand-up comedy mainstay at Netflix since 2017's Live From Seattle, is back this week with fifth hour-long comedy special, Live From Brooklyn, shot at the historic Kings Theatre. He joins a short-list of some of the most prolific comedians with 5 specials on Netflix including Iliza Shlesinger, Vir Das & Jim Jefferies to name a few. In Koy's typical fashion, Live From Brooklyn finds the comic sharing "his unfiltered opinions on social media, aging and moving into a new stage of his life - his zaddy phase."
While most of late night was dark this past week for Memorial Day weekend into an off week, all the late night shows are back with a robust lineup of comedy making its way around each show. Check out the full schedule below.
Among the rest of the stand-up specials to look out for this week include Marlon Wayans critically raving & anticipated new special with Prime Video, Good Grief. This unique special finds the comic bringing together comedy & therapy as he takes this hour to process the loss of both of his parents. Stephen Kramer Glickman, who you may know as Gustavo Rocque from the hit boy-band Nickelodeon sitcom Big Time Rush, is an active stand-up comedian, actor & musician who's bringing his newest hour, Voices In My Head, to 800 Pound Gorilla this week. Comedian Rachel Scanlon releases her appropriately timed special, Gay Fantasy, via Comedy Dynamics to kick off Pride Month.
On the movie front, there's two key comedy films to look forward to. School of Rock & Dazed and Confused filmmaker, Richard Linklater, premieres his new thriller noir-comedy starring Glen Powell, Hit Man, on Netflix. The movie follows Gary Johnson, who moonlights as a fake hit man for the New Orleans Police Department.
Will Smith & Martin Lawrence reunite on the big screen this week as wisecracking Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett for the fourth installment of the action-comedy franchise, Bad Boys: Ride or Die. This new entry to the Bad Boys universe follows the two detectives as they're out to clear the name of the late & former police captain who's linked to drug cartels.
And lastly: stand-up comedian, writer & director Julio Torres continues building his impressive & storied career with his latest TV project at HBO, Fantasmas. The multi-hyphenate who plays himself on the show "goes on a search for a lost golden oyster earring in New York City. As his quest progresses, he reflects on the offbeat characters that he meets along the way." Don't sleep on the Los Espookys star, Torres is a name you need to know!
