Buzzy indie studio A24 has released the first trailer for Y2K, an R-rated disaster comedy from writer, director & Saturday Night Live alum Kyle Mooney in his feature length debut. The film had its premiere at SXSW earlier this year and has also set a December 6th theatrical release date.

The new movie, written by Mooney & co-writer Evan Winter, takes place on the last night of 1999 and follows two high school juniors who crash a New Years Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives. The film gives a tease at the "what if" the world's systems crashed on the evening of New Years Eve in 1999? Experts at the time widely predicted that the turning of a new millennium would cause iMacs in revolt! Banking codes plundered! Planes falling from the sky! (all of which we see a tease of in the film's first trailer).
But obviously, the outcome by and large was a big nothing. With Mooney's directorial debut, we see what could've been through his comical lens paying a nod to his SNL days.
The film stars Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, Julian Dennison, The Kid Laroi, Alicia Silverstone and Fred Durst. Additional cast includes Tim Heidecker, Eduardo Franco, Miles Robbins, Fred Hechinger and Daniel Zolghadri.
Producing the film alongside Winter is Jonah Hill (who also produced Mid90s), Matt Dines, Alison Goodwin, Christopher Storer from The Bear & Cooper Wehde.
When does "Y2K" open in theaters?
The film hits theaters exclusively nationwide on Friday, December 6th.
