Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore.

Adam Sandler's "Happy Gilmore 2" Officially Moving Forward At Netflix

It's officially happening: and as 800 Pound Gorilla News originally predicted, Netflix has ordered the sequel to Adam Sandler's sports comedy classic, Happy Gilmore!

Everything to know about "Happy Gilmore 2."

The news was announced today at Netflix's upfront presentation to advertisers in New York. Sandler starred in & co-wrote the original 1996 golf film with Tim Herlihy that would end up propelling him to comedy superstardom.

The sequel film's story line, writer or director weren't announced by Netflix (more details are likely to be revealed at a later date).

Christopher McDonald, who plays Shooter McGavin, teased the film's development earlier this year in an interview with Audacy's 92.3 The Fan telling how Sandler showed him a first draft of the film's screenplay. At the time of the interview, he said he "saw Adam about two weeks ago, and Sandler says to him, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this." McDonald asks, ‘What?’ Sandler says, "How about that,’ and he shows him [McDonald] the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.”

The original film follows Sandler playing an aspiring professional hockey player, Happy Gilmore, who discovers he's actually a talented golfer. To save his grandmother's house from foreclosure, Gilmore joins a golf tournament to try and win enough money to buy the house for her.

McDonald also said about the film, "Fans demand it, dammit!” And here we are with a now anticipated sequel from the Sandman!
