HBO is a network that's proven itself with its track record on excellent comedic documentaries. A few of the recent ones include the Albert Brooks documentary, George Carlin's American Dream, & The Zen Diaries of Gary Shandling. And now, the network has announced its newest documentary currently in the works & in production about the comedy icon Mel Brooks.

Everything we know about the new Mel Brooks HBO documentary.

The currently untitled documentary is being produced & directed by renowned stand-up comedian & filmmaker Judd Apatow via his Apatow Productions banner (the same director & team behind the hit shows Freaks & Geeks, Crashing & of course his hit films The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, & Anchorman to name a few).

According to the logline, the new documentary is "an expansive yet intimate look at one of comedy’s most hilarious and influential minds, whose work has had audiences around the world laughing for more than 70 years."

Apatow shared his excitement about directing the new documentary for Brooks saying, “I went into comedy because of my love for Mel Brooks. This project is the dream of a lifetime.”

Also directing the documentary with Apatow is Michael Bonfiglio with editing from Joe Beshenkovsky (the same trio behind the George Carlin documentary) & executive producing is Kevin Salter.

With Blazing Saddles celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the new Spaceballs film in development & an honorary Academy Award received earlier this year, Brooks is at his best yet at 98 years old. We can't wait to hear more about this new documentary with this outstanding team in place!
