Steve Carell in Asteroid City.

Steve Carell To Star In New HBO Comedy Series From "Ted Lasso" Creator

Since the ending of the two esteemed HBO comedy shows Curb Your Enthusiasm & Barry, the network has been signaling that it's pulling out all the stops to beef up its next lineup of comedy series. So far, there've been announcements of new shows such as the Tim Robinson & Zach Kanin created series The Chair Company, a new Molly Shannon series (who's appearing on Only Murders In The Building this upcoming season) & a Rachel Sennott series (one of the stars of Bottoms) all in the works & ordered at HBO.

And now, the latest series to ordered to that growing lineup comes from America's favorite boss, actor & comedian: Steve Carell.

The eleven-time Emmy Award nominee is set to star in & executive produce a new comedy series ordered by HBO from seasoned show creators & executive producers Bill Lawrence & Matt Tarses . Lawrence is best known for creating the Apple TV+ juggernaut Ted Lasso as well as Shrinking. Tarses is best known for his work on The Goldbergs & Sports Night (both of whom previously collaborated together on the hit series Scrubs). The currently untitled series is "a single-camera comedy set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter."

What they're saying about the new Steve Carell HBO comedy series.

“HBO has long been a standard bearer of quality TV. Getting to do a show there with Steve Carell is an immediate career highlight for Matt and me. Nothing can go wrong now,” says show writer & executive producer Bill Lawrence.

Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO & Max Comedy Programming adds, “The combination of Steve Carell and Bill Lawrence promises to be full of great laughs, warmth, and charm. We’re thrilled to be the home for this long overdue collaboration.”

This new show marks the latest entry back into television for Carell, who was most recently announced as the latest cast addition to Tina Fey's new Netflix comedy series, The Four Seasons, based on the adaptation of the original film starring Alan Alda & Carol Burnett. Carell previously starred in the Netflix comedy series Space Force & of course is best known for his iconic performance as Michael Scott in NBC's The Office.
