Comedian & icon Mel Brooks is one of the most legendary & storied entertainers of our time, who's enjoying quite a massive year so far. First, he won an honorary Oscar at this year's Governor's Awards (good news, he hasn't sold it yet) and just this past week, it was announced that he'll be producing a reboot of Spaceballs. Today also happens to be Brooks' 98th birthday - Happy Birthday, Mel!
And next month, Brooks will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of his most storied & praised films of his career, Blazing Saddles, in style with a special anniversary screening & hilarious conversation with the filmmaker himself featuring moderator Kevin Salter.
This special event takes place July 27th at 7 :30 PM at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles & will feature a live interview and audience Q&A with the Peabody, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award-winner following a full-length screening of Blazing Saddles on the big screen.
The satirical western comedy originally released in 1974 follows "a crafty railroad worker Bart (Cleavon Little) who becomes the first black sheriff of Rock Ridge, a frontier town about to be destroyed in order to make way for a new railroad. Initially, the people of Rock Ridge harbor a racial bias toward their new leader. However, they warm to him after realizing that Bart and his perpetually drunk gunfighter friend (Gene Wilder) are the only defense against a wave of thugs sent to rid the town of its population."
