Comedian, writer & actor, Rory Scovel, has announced his brand new stand-up comedy special, Rory Scovel: Religion, Sex and a Few Things In Between, premiering later this month on Max!
What to know about Rory Scovel's new special.
Rory Scovel is the latest comic to partner with Max on a new comedy special. Similarly to Gary Gulman's Born on 3rd Base, Scovel will be getting the Conan treatment where the new special has comedy powerhouse, Conan O'Brien, producing under his Team Coco banner. They recorded the new hour last November at the Goodale Theater in Minneapolis, MN.
The logline for this new hour sees Scovel offering "observations on disparate subjects such as religion, sex, mushrooms, vaccines, parenting an eight-year-old, and much more...over the course of his 70-minute set, the South Carolina native interweaves improvised moments with meta-commentary on the subtle art of stand-up as he riffs on some of the most awkward aspects of seemingly taboo yet universal topics – all with a dose of his amiable southern charm."
Ahead of the taping, Rory shared some insight on this new hour in an Instagram post saying "this hour was born out of jokes from a docu-special we shot in 2018 (Live Without Fear), mixed with some older jokes I finally have a home for, jokes from our time in quarantine and some that just appeared during this tour that started all the way back in April (2024)."
From seeing the trailer, it looks like this new hour truly paid off for Scovel & is a special we're certainly looking forward to watching soon!
Along with Scovel & O'Brien, the upcoming hour is executive produced by Jeff Ross, J.P. Buck, John Irwin, Molly Mandel, and Jeff Tomsic (who also directs). This new hour follows his previous specials Live Without Fear (2021), Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up For The First Time (2017), & The Charleston Special (2015).
What else has Rory Scovel been up to?
This past year, Scovel has been working out this new material on his headlining The Last Tour with sold out shows in Chicago, Portland, New York, & more. He also co-hosts the BMP podcast Pen Pals opposite Daniel Van Kirk, where they respond to letters sent to them on topics ranging from free will to freeway etiquette, from mental health to manatees.
As an actor, he previously starred opposite Rose Byrne in the Apple TV+ comedy series Physical for three seasons & was featured in Damien Chazelle's Babylon (2022).
