Dave Chappelle has just landed his fifth Grammy Award win for Best Comedy Album at this year's Grammy Awards for his 2022 stand-up special that primarily served as a speech at his alma mater, Washington D.C.’s Duke Ellington School of the Arts. The performance found the comedian reflecting on his comedy roots, his rise to fame and why artists 'should never behave.
Chappelle beat out fellow nominees Trevor Noah for I Wish You Would (who is this year's ceremony host), Chris Rock for Selective Outrage, Sarah Silverman for Someone You Love & Wanda Sykes for I'm An Entertainer.
Chappelle was not present to accept the prestigious award, which was handed out during the premiere ceremony, where the majority of this year’s Grammys are given out, so presenter Rufus Wainwright accepted it on his behalf.
Which albums did Dave Chappelle previously win the Best Comedy Album Award at the Grammys?
Chappelle's previous wins came from The Closer (2022), Sticks & Stones (2019), Equanimity & The Bird Revelation (2018), & The Age of Spin & Deep in the Heart of Texas (2017). All of which are available to stream on Netflix.
He recently surprised dropped his latest special, The Dreamer, with the streaming giant on Netflix this past New Year's Eve (December 2023). Chappelle is also slated to open his new comedy club & music club in Yellow Springs, Ohio later this year.
