Sarah Sherman’s Style Seizes The SNL Stage As Seen From Her Decked Out Dressing Room

Sarah Sherman, or Sarah Squirm, of Saturday Night Live has stood out among the cast not only through brightly colored outfits but also through her wild body horror sketches that often require very advanced prosthetics. Sherman’s deep dive into clown culture is not only restricted to her wardrobe, it expands to her dressing room.

Back in May, Sherman was featured as Caleb Simpson’s viral apartment tour guest (better known as the guy who started asking people on TikTok “how much do you pay for rent?” ) and shared with the internet her dressing room decor. It was nothing short of what you’d expect. From the checkered rug to the pink couch to the cartoon brain bits on the wall, everything, no matter how chaotic, seems to be meticulously curated to somehow please the overstimulated eye.

The walls and desk are covered in souvenirs from the show including the cue cards from Sherman’s first appearance. From the stuff on her desk, Sherman pulls out a prosthetic from her eyeball hunchback sketch. She invites Simpson to touch it and as they both poke it Simpson calls Sherman “weird” to which she replies, “I’m normal!”

How Sarah Sherman has made her clown-like mark on Saturday Night Live

Sherman’s known for putting faces and eyeballs in different odd places on the body for sketches. Just watch her meatballs sketch from her first season on the show. The absurdity of the sketch is absolutely hilarious, touching on Sherman’s own comedy style. The comedian has been praised by many for not compromising her own style too much just to match the tone of SNL.

Sherman has also been featured on Weekend Update numerous times, once as RFK’s brainworm. This outside the box thinking is what has made Sherman a mainstay of Studio 8H.

Colin Jost can often be found at the butt end of Michael Che’s jokes and Sherman was not afraid to jump on that train. In her debut season, Sherman came on Weekend Update and held nothing back as she ripped into Jost which resulted in another appearance and a segment as a field correspondent for Update. The throughline of all of this was Sherman making Jost uncomfortable as she joked about and framed him for perverted actions against her. This was also followed by a twice recurring segment also on Update with her own pink desk, chair, mug, and backdrop, all following the style of her wardrobe, dressing room, and all around life. The graphics were even changed to have “Sarah News” spelled out in cartoon intestines. The fleshy pinks and bright yellows separate her segment from the rest of Weekend Update. The whimsy she brings to harder topics while making hilarious claims about her coworkers makes Sarah News something to look forward to.

Professional clown, Sarah Sherman, has not only brought body horror to the studio 8H stage but has also infused her own personal style into the show. Clown is a lifestyle and Sherman lives it.
