Earlier this morning, the Television Academy released the nominations for this year's 76th Emmy Awards celebrating all the outstanding performances, writing & shows from this past year in television.
Each year brings it's surprises and non-surprises. Most notably, the non-surprises included The Bear not only leading the comedy series categories as a whole with 23 nominations, it also broke the Emmy nomination record previously held by 30 Rock. Other non-surprises include Abbott Elementary, Only Murders In The Building & Hacks each coming through with a hefty amount of nominations themselves. It's an interesting year now to hear this year's comedy series nominations get the attention they deserve now given that shows like Ted Lasso & Barry being wrapped now (making room for more flowers to be given).
A few surprises include Taika Waititi's show Reservation Dogs pleasantly getting the love & attention it's finally deserved this year from its celebrated final season. One show that was expected to get a ton of Emmy awards love that we are indeed surprised to not see get enough nominations is John Mulaney Presents Everybody's In LA. The unique one-off live show was received with so many rave reviews during its airtime live streaming at Netflix Is A Joke Fest and was reported to be a shoe-in for the talk & variety series categories.
Stand-up also got some solid representation in this year's variety special categories as well from plenty of Netflix & HBO comedy specials landing nominations to even The Roast of Tom Brady scoring a recognition. Overall, comedy continues to be well represented at the Emmys!
