Steve Martin is often regarded as one of the greatest stand-ups of all time. Despite retiring from stand-up officially in the 1980’s, he’s long held onto that record. He even wrote a book about it, Born Standing Up, that’s regarded as one of the greatest books on stand-up comedy. Now, he’s the subject of a new two-part documentary, Steve!.
Details on the new Steve Martin documentary, "Steve!"
The documentary is directed by Morgan Neville and is split up into two halves, telling two very different sides of the same coin. The first part is chronicling Martin’s upbringing and years in stand-up. Part number two takes a look at who Martin is as a person today, and his latter career after stand-up. According to Vanity Fair, the film’s are so different that Neville had two separate editors working on each part. He treated them as two different films entirely.
The film features archival footage mixed in with modern footage and interviews. There’s also a glimpse into Martin’s writing process through journals and diaries that will allow you to get into the headspace of Martin’s work.
When does the "Steve!" documentary release?
The film starts streaming on Apple TV+ March 29th.
