Earlier this year, we learned about a new documentary, titled Will & Harper, that made its grand debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January and is centered around two comedy legends & Saturday Night Live alums Will Ferrell & Harper Steele. After shopping the new documentary to some eager distributors, it ultimately landed at Netflix.

And today, the streaming giant has announced that it'll premiere on the platform September 27th along with hitting select theaters throughout this month. It also unveiled a proper first look at the new documentary with its first trailer, which gives a closer look at Ferrell & Steele's friendship while working together at SNL & how they're friendship has evolved since getting hired together as writers on the iconic NBC sketch series.

Per the official logline of the new documentary: "When Will Ferrell finds out his close friend of 30 years is coming out as a trans woman, the two decide to embark on a cross-country road trip to process this new stage of their relationship in an intimate portrait of friendship, transition, and America."

From what we've gathered, their drive starts in New York at their old SNL haunts and ends in Ferrell’s hometown of Los Angeles. Over the course of their 16-day trip, Ferrell and Steele traversed the length and breadth of the American heartland, from Indianapolis to the Grand Canyon, striking up conversations and making new friends in bars, gas stations, and rodeos along the way.

While Ferrell & Harper are the primary talent involved in the new film, don't be surprised if you see some familiar SNL faces pop in throughout, there are brief appearances from Tina Fey & Tim Meadows in the first trailer you can watch above.

Directing Will & Harper is Josh Greenbaum, who previously directed Strays & Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar. He adds about the new film, "When Will and Harper talked to me about directing this documentary, I knew it was a story that needed to be told, and I was so excited to go on this special journey with a group of close friends both on-screen and behind the camera."

He continues, "This is the most special film I’ve ever worked on because it was so intimate and personal. The love I have for these two incredibly brave, funny, and beautiful people is hard to express in words. I’m grateful that I could, in some way, channel that love into this film."

With Will & Harper, Ferrell will continue his partnership with Netflix for his first ever scripted comedy series, GOLF, with Ramy Youssef & Josh Rabinowitz & previously released the film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga in 2020.

When does "Will & Harper" premiere on Netflix?
