After more than two decades of performing stand-up comedy, George Lopez has officially announced his retirement. The comedian & actor revealed the news this week shortly after taping his upcoming Prime Video comedy special (which will now be his final comedy special) a few weeks ago.
What George Lopez is saying about his retirement from stand-up.
When asked by talk show host Tamron Hall on her syndicated talk show about the special taping, Lopez said, “It is the last one. I’ve subjected the American people to enough of my crap. It seems like the right time; it’s been the one thing that has just never left me my whole life and it’s a wonderful place to leave it at this particular point.”
Next to him on the show was his Lopez vs. Lopez co-star & daughter Mayan Lopez, where he continued elaborating on his stand-up retirement saying, "I wanna spend more time with her, I love the show [Lopez vs. Lopez]."
The currently untitled comedy special was taped at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles as part of his “ALLLRIIIIGHHTTT! Comedy” tour & will premiere sometime later this year or early next year on Prime Video. It'll additionally mark his seventh comedy special following We'll Do It For Half (2020), The Wall (2017), It’s Not Me, It’s You (2012), Tall, Dark and Chicano (2009) & America’s Mexican (2007) & Why You Crying? (2005).
The NBC comedy series, Lopez vs. Lopez, returns for its third season Friday, October 18th.
