Ari Shaffir is returning to Netflix in a new deal for his next two stand-up comedy specials as well as the re-release of his 2022 YouTube special, Jew. The first of the two specials in the new deal is titled Ari Shaffir: America's Sweetheart, premiering globally on Netflix January 14th, 2025 followed a second special at a later date.
Shaffir's Netflix return follows the release of his 2017 special with the streamer Double Negative. And in America's Sweetheart, the logline reads: "From the joys of domestic terrorism, to the genius of Kanye West, Ari Shaffir figures out a way to find the positive in gun violence, racism, censorship, political upheaval gay rights, antisemitism and opioid abuse in this hilarious and darkly uplifting stand-up comedy special." The new special was taped this past April at Capital Turnaround in Washington, DC, where Eric Abrams directed & served as executive producer alongside Shaffir & Jordan Levy.
In an unexpected move for the new deal, Shaffir's latest comedy special Jew will be available to stream on the platform beginning in 2025, a first of it's kind of acquisition for Netflix according to Deadline. With the acquisition, it'll gain a new life to add on to the special's impressive 7.4 million views on YouTube (as of writing) in front of the streamer's nearly 283 million paid subscribers according to third quarter of 2024 reports.
In a statement about the new deal, Shaffir tells Deadline, “Years of drug abuse has dulled my ability to feel jubilation over network deals but my mother will be able to brag about this to her friends at jazzercise, which is nice.”
In addition to being a well established stand-up comedian, Shaffir has been busy behind the scenes serving as an executive producer for a slate of hit stand-up specials released this year & last including Adrienne Iapalucci's The Dark Queen on Netflix as well as Sal Vulcano's Terrified & Big Jay Oakerson's Dog Belly (both available on 800 Pound Gorilla).
He also launched his latest travel-comedy podcast on the YMH Studios Podcast Network, You Be Trippin', where him & his guests discuss their hilarious & crazy travel stories.
