After launching sales as part of a film package at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, the musical comedy cult-classic, This Is Spinal Tap, is getting a sequel.
Details on Rob Reiner's "Spinal Tap" sequel.
In Rob Reiner’s check-in with Nigel Tufnel et al, the new sequel will take its visual cues from Martin Scorsese’s The Last Waltz, which documented The Band. To get the public excited about seeing the return of these characters from 1984, no less than the relevant talents of Garth Brooks, Elton John, and Paul McCartney are set to feature in the film.
The news of the new movie was revealed by Reiner on Richard Herring’s RHLSTP podcast.
When will the "This Is Spinal Tap" sequel come out?
For those curious to see how the band has been over the last forty years, the film is likely to release in Q4 2024 or sometime in 2025.
Outside of getting ready to direct the new sequel, Reiner most recently worked on the new Albert Brooks documentary, Defending My Life, on HBO.
