Spirit Halloween Responds To "SNL's" Latest Parody

Spooky season is now upon us and getting ahead of the Halloween season is Saturday Night Live. The hit sketch comedy series, which just began its 50th season, aired a sketch parodying the infamous Halloween store that seemingly appears for only a matter of weeks each year: Spirit Halloween.

The bit, starring Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow & featuring new cast members Ashley Padilla & Jane Wickline, positions itself as an ad for "the one store that will always be there" and sees the cast roasting the store for setting up shop in vacant buildings temporarily for weeks (notably K-Marts & AutoZones). Fineman's character roasts further saying "We're here providing vulnerable communities with the things they need most. Wigs that give you a rash, single use fog machines and costumes of famous characters tweaked just enough to avoid a lawsuit."

The Halloween store has now responded to the sketch & needless to say, they weren't happy about it and decided to roast back.

What Spirit Halloween is saying about SNL's parody sketch.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) quoting SNL's original post with the sketch, the store said "We are great at raising things back from the dead @nbcsnl." With the post, they added their own version of the viral adult size costume meme coining the costume as "Irrelevant 50-year old TV show." The store's take on this costume includes "dated references, unknown cast members, & shrinking ratings."

Since its upload to YouTube, the sketch has now surpassed one million views making it one of the most popular sketches from the season premiere episode which didn't feature host Jean Smart.

This isn't the first time SNL has gotten a response like this from a brand they've spoofed. Years ago, Safelite was not happy with its parody of the Auto Glass company, which starred former SNL cast member Beck Bennett.

Saturday Night Live continues its 50th season this weekend with returning hosts & musical guests Nate Bargatze & Coldplay on NBC.
