Becky Lucas has just released her new special An Evening With Becky Lucas. The special was filmed while the writer and stand-up comedian was 10 weeks pregnant. Which she says, “impaired her ability to pull together a ‘look’ [so] please don’t write mean comments because I’m a mother now and I’m sleep deprived and very emotional.” Well her ability to crack a joke was far from impaired.
Throughout the night Lucas manages to even make the use of paper towels a hilarious bit. She even admits that she is sex negative but pointing out the irony of how she is trying to get pregnant but looks at other pregnant women and thinks, “you’re just admitting it.” Lucas has a keen sense for turning what might make her a bad person into a hilarious bit we might all secretly identify with.
Lucas leapt into the limelight at the 2013 National RAW Comedy finals and is far from leaving. Selling out crowds across Australia and New Zealand wasn’t enough for the comedian. In the same year, 2018, Lucas had her Edinburgh Fringe debut as well as performed on the stage of the Sydney Opera House, as a part of the lineup of Just for Laughs Sydney Festival.
This wasn’t Lucas’ only Just For Laughs appearance. In 2019, she traveled halfway across the world to accompany some of the biggest names in comedy, performing at the prestigious Just for Laughs Montreal. This gave the perfect bookend to Lucas’ tour Um, Support Me?! Lucas Now cohosts the comedy podcast, The Becky and Cam Show.
Lucas says her life is like a “shitty Netflix series” that she’ll watch all the way through but would never recommend. However, An Evening With Becky Lucas you’ll watch all the way through and won’t be able to stop recommending to your friends.
