It’s crazy to thank that it’s been almost 15 years since Conan O’Brien first took the reins of The Tonight Show in June 2009. Unfortunately, we all know how that ended up, after NBC decided to push O’Brien out in favor of Jay Leno after just seven months on the air. O’Brien then went onto host his own show on TBS for the next 11 years, and hosts one of the most popular entertainment podcasts, Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend.
Conan O'Brien's history on The Tonight Show since NBC departure.
But O‘Brien hasn’t been on The Tonight Show since he left. Aside from a brief appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in October 2011 & a pre-recorded sketch on Fallon's Tonight Show with Stephen Colbert in 2018, he hasn’t even been on the network since then. That’s all going to change next week, however.
Last night, it was announced that O’Brien will be going back on The Tonight Show as a guest. Now hosted by Jimmy Fallon, O’Brien has gotten along well with him over the years. With his new Max series coming out later this month, the timing seems perfect. We can’t wait to see O’Brien on the show!
