Jimmy Kimmel

Recapping Jimmy Kimmel’s 2024 Oscar Monologue

Last night, Jimmy Kimmel returned to the Dolby Theater stage to host the 96th Academy Awards. This was the fourth time Kimmel has taken on the role, having last done so as recently as last year. As to be expected, there was lots of attention on his monologue.

Kimmel took lots of opportunities in the monologue to talk about the year’s biggest films. He kicked things off by saying “This night is full of enormous talent and untold potential. But so was Madame Web, so who knows!”

The monologue featured lots of jokes about the year’s two most talked about films, Barbie and Oppenheimer, as well as addressing Greta Gerwig not being nominated for an Oscar. He also had some fun with Bradley Cooper, Robert Downey Jr., and Steven Spielberg.

Jimmy Kimmel nearly stayed clear of politics at this year's Oscars.

Kimmel mostly steered clear of politics. But at a certain point, it was inevitable. Perhaps even more memorably, however, was what happened at the end of the ceremony. With a minute to kill, Kimmel decided to read a review of the ceremony, posted by Donald Trump to Truth Social. It was by and large one of our favorite Kimmel moments of the night.
