“Good Times” Is Back As An Animated Netflix Series

It’s time to go back to the 70’s with a reboot of another classic sitcom. This one has been given the animated twist, as Good Times is being rebooted on Netflix next month.

Based on the Norman Lear sitcom of the same name that premiered in 1974, the new animated series is centered on the fourth generation of the Evans family living in apartment 17C of a Chicago housing project. This new incarnation features a cast that includes J.B. Smoove, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jay Pharoah, Marsai Martin, Slink Johnson, Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola, and more. It is produced by Stephen Curry, Seth MacFarlane, and Lear, who passed away last year. This marks the final project for the television legend.

“It’s about a Black family that comes together, laughs together, and survives the system on the South Side of Chicago,” said showrunner Rananda Shepard. “What you’ll get from that is a lot of social commentary, a lot of pushing the boundaries, a lot of feel-good television, but also a lot of things that may be in the vein of The Simpsons and South Park and Family Guy. When you’re looking back 10 years later, you’ll be like, ‘They said that on Good Times?’ Oh my gosh.’ ”

When does the animated "Good Times" series premiere?

The series Good Times premieres on Netflix April 12th.
