Jack Black Cancels Tenacious D Tour Over Bandmate Kyle Gass' Trump Comment

UPDATE on July 19th, 2024 at 11:48 AM CT: Kyle Gass has now deleted his Trump apology post on Instagram just days after Jack Black canceled Tenacious D's current tour. In that original post, Gass said his comment was "highly inappropriate, dangerous & a terrible mistake."

Following the removal of that post, Gass reportedly liked a Tenacious D fan account's post petitioning for the band to "bring back the D."

PREVIOUSLY on July 16th, 2024 at 11:07 AM CDT: Jack Black, one half of the musical comedy rock duo Tenacious D, has announced that he's cancelled the on going Tenacious D tour following bandmate Kyle Gass' controversial comment at the band's concert this past Sunday night in Sydney, Australia related to events surrounding Donald Trump over the weekend.

What Jack Black & Kyle Gass are saying about the Tenacious D tour cancellation.

In a statement on Instagram, Black shared: "I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold, I am grateful to the fans for their support & understanding."

Since that post, Gass followed up with an apology on Instagram saying, "The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous & a terrible mistake. I don't condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I'm incredibly sorry for my sever lack of judgement. I profoundly apologize to those I've let down and truly regret any pain I've caused."

During the duo's performance in Sydney on Sunday, they celebrated Gass' 64th birthday when Black presented him with a birthday cake. Clips from the show have traveled online where Black is heard saying to Gass presenting the cake, "make a wish," to which Gass responded, "don't miss Trump next time." Following those viral clips, Australian Senator Ralph Babet demanded the duo have their visas revoked & be deported from the country.

The duo was set to partner with Rock The Vote on a special college campus tour this Fall to help get college students interested in the upcoming election. Information on remaining tour dates & refunds will be provided by the band at a later date.
