Last month, Jack Black abruptly cancelled Tenacious D's tour following his bandmate Kyle Gass' controversial comment surrounding Donald Trump while on tour in Australia. As part of the abrupt cancellation, he said "I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold, I am grateful to the fans for their support & understanding."
This decision was made in response to Gass' stage comment while celebrating his birthday where Black was presenting a cake to Gass saying, "make a wish," to which Gass responded, "don't miss Trump next time." Gass later removed his apology he called "highly inappropriate" from Instagram.
With a little time now passed since the cancellation, the rock musician, actor & comedian gave a new update at the premiere of his new movie Borderlands last night addressing the status of the rock duo's future.
What Jack Black is saying about Tenacious D's future.
According to Black's interaction with Variety when asked about the band's current plans, he said "We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime. And we'll be back." And since the tour cancellation, Black has confirmed that he's since spoken to Gass saying, “Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed. These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right.”
He even wore the "Pick of Destiny" to the Borderlands premiere to show promising signs of the band's return as seen in the duo's 2006 film Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. Black added, “I love Tenacious D. It’s probably my favorite job, if you can call it that. It’s a work of art, it’s my baby.”
Black stars in the new action sci-fi comedy Borderlands opening in theaters this Friday alongside Kevin Hart, Bobby Lee, Jamie Lee Curtis, Cate Blanchett & more.
