Early this morning, Vice President & presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris announced her vice presidential running rate would be Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. With the recent news that legendary Saturday Night Live alum & comedian Maya Rudolph is returning this highly anticipated 50th season to reprise her role as the political figure, the internet went ablaze to share their picks as to who should portray the newly announced running mate.

It should go without saying that the current cast of SNL is outstanding and there are plenty of performers on the show who could step up to the plate this season to play Walz. Many fans online have been chiming in and are saying they still love seeing celebrity cameos each season, similar to past year’s stunt-casting like Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump & Jim Carrey as Joe Biden in recent memory. According to X (formerly Twitter) & Reddit, here are 10 comedians who could play Minnesota Governor Tim Walz this season on SNL!

Steve Martin

Among all the names thrown in the ringer today, the one that’s stood out the most & reigning wide is comedy legend & friend of SNL Steve Martin. While he would normally pop by Studio 8H on any given day, with Only Murders In The Building returning later this Fall for its fourth season, it’s all the more merrier & a potential possibility to see Charles Haden Savage stand next to Maya Rudolph’s Kamala Harris this Fall. One popular user on X chimed in saying, “SNL get Steve Martin on the phone NOW”

“Put him in, coach” said one Reddit user about the creator & executive producer of the hit late night sketch series Lorne Michaels, to which one replied, “I mean if there was ever a year that it could happen” referring to the mainstay series celebrating 50 years of the landmark show.

Rick Moranis

Honey, I Shrunk The Kids & Spaceballs star Rick Moranis was also thrown in the ring as a possibility. While unlikely given his not retirement phase of his career, anything could happen.

Lewis Black

One redditor posted a side by side of Walz & Lewis Black making a case for the Rantcast podcaster & stand-up comedian to be considered for the gig. Then someone else responded saying while they Love Black, they can’t “imagine him containing his rage long enough.”

Nick Offerman

“We all agree that this is who should play Tim Walz on SNL right?” said one X (formerly Twitter) user. If Nick Offerman were recruited for the gig, he’d at least bring with him his politician chops playing beloved Pawnee City Parks Director Ron Swanson on Parks & Recreation & most recently President of the United States on the apocalyptic A24 thriller Civil War.

Jim Gaffigan

With the show’s recent support of stand-ups on the show including Nate Bargatze, Shane Gillis & Ramy Youssef, Jim Gaffigan is a possibility given his upcoming comedy special heading to Hulu in November.

Danny DeVito

Comedian Abby Govindan added her excitement anticipating Walz’ nomination saying, “I’d love to see Danny DeVito play him on SNL for the rest of election season.”

Jim O'Heir

Like his Parks & Recreation co-star Nick Offerman, Jim O’Heir has the political performance background from playing Jerry Gergich on the beloved NBC sitcom to potentially step into the role of Tim Walz.

Richard Kind

Another side by side of Walz & Everybody’s In LA sideman Richard Kind posted by another X user offered a rebuttal to the popular Steve Martin suggestion saying, "I know people think Steve Martin should play Tim Walz on SNL, but I have a better idea…”

Al Franken

Original Saturday Night Live writer & performer & former Minnesota politician Al Franken is also thrown into the ring for consideration. The comedian originally wrote on the show from 1975 to 1980 & will be portrayed in the upcoming Saturday Night movie.
