We’re going to see lots of exciting things happening with Saturday Night Live ahead of its 50th season. Things are kicking off with Jason Reitman’s forthcoming film about the lead up to the first episode, which was then titled SNL 1975. This week, we learned two new things about the film.

Everything we know about Jason Reitman's SNL movie, "Saturday Night."

First up, the film will now be titled Saturday Night. It will also follow in the footsteps of its subject with the release date. Sony will be releasing the film into theaters on October 11th, 2024. This is the same date that the show premiered back in 1975. According to the film's synopsis, the movie recounts the night of "SNL's series premiere told from the point of view of a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers that changed television forever. It depicts the chaos and magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, counting down the minutes in real time to the infamous words, 'Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!'"

Additionally, it’s expected that the film will play at some film festivals leading up to the wide release. It is a pretty significant turn around time, seeing as how they just wrapped production back in May. Our take is that they’re trying to get a head start on what will probably be a year-long celebration of the show.

The film features a pretty stellar cast, that includes Gabriel LaBelle (Lorne Michaels), Dylan O’Brien (Dan Aykroyd), Cory Michael Smith (Chevy Chase), Rachel Sennott (Rosie Shuster), Lamorne Morris (Garrett Morris), Nicholas Braun (Andy Kaufman/Jim Henson), Finn Wolfhard (NBC page), Jon Batiste (Billy Preston), Ella Hunt (Gilda Radner), Cooper Hoffman (Dick Ebersol), Andrew Barth Feldman (Neil Levy), Naomi McPherson (Janis Ian), Willem Dafoe (David Tebet), J.K. Simmons (Milton Berle), Kaia Gerber (Jacqueline Carlin), Matthew Rhys (George Carlin), and more.
