In a surprising turn of events, the legendary & longtime host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, is returning to his old stomping grounds to host the beloved show on Mondays on a part time basis.

What we know so far about Jon Stewart's return to The Daily Show.

Stewart has been enlisted by Paramount to host the show on Monday nights throughout the 2024 election cycle & run the program as an executive producer.

During the Tuesday through Thursday slots, the show will pick up hosting duties through its current lineup of correspondents Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, Ronny Chieng, Dulce Sloan & Jordan Klepper.

Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement “Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season. In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

Everything that's happened between now & Trevor Noah's departure on The Daily Show.

It's been interesting watching the show work to find a permanent solution for the vacant hosting spot left by Trevor Noah at the end of 2022. The show's had a rotating set of guest hosts like Sarah Silverman, Michelle Wolf, Chelsea Handler, Charlamagne Tha God, & Lewis Black amongst others stepping in for the beloved talk series.

Hasan Minhaj among many other candidates have been previously considered for the permanent hosting spot. Famously last Fall, Roy Wood Jr. shared that "he's moving on" and added that he "can't come up with Plan B is while still working with Plan A."

This new announcement also comes on the heels of Jon Stewart's talk show The Problem With Jon Stewart, no longer moving forward at Apple citing his clash between him & the company over its coverage about China & AI.

Shortly before this hosting update, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah just recently won an Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series at this year's delayed Emmy Awards.

When does the Daily Show return?

New episodes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart's return begin on Monday, February 12th on Comedy Central.
