The King Of Queens star & stand-up comedian Kevin James has been making comedy fans laugh for the past 25 years on the big screen & on stages around the world. While many know James for his roles as a goofball & a dad jokester, he got his start in stand-up in the early ‘90s & hasn’t slowed down since.
This past January, James released his newest stand-up special, Irregardless, on Prime Video. And today, its accompanying comedy album is available on 800 Pound Gorilla & everywhere else you listen to comedy.
In his newest special, James laughs in the face of modern medicine and its anxieties. The long-time comedian isn’t afraid to admit he’s getting older and doesn’t trust technology. Before Irregardless, James has had a storied career that has only set him up for success.
Breaking down Kevin James’ stand-up comedy, film & TV roots.
James burst into the big leagues after his success at the 1996 Montreal Comedy Festival and his hit CBS sitcom, The King Of Queens, premiered two years later in 1998. The fan favorite show aired for nine seasons, earning him an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and just this past year spawned a viral & widely discussed KJ meme.
Couple years later, James returned to his stand-up roots with his debut special on Comedy Central, Sweat The Small Stuff (2001). His critically acclaimed sophomore comedy special, Never Don’t Give Up (2018), premiered on Netflix 17 years later. But that gap was hardly empty.
James made his way to the feature film stage, starring in Hitch opposite Will Smith. James also co-wrote, produced and starred in various hit comedies including Zookeeper, Here Comes The Boom, and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 1 and 2. James also has a longstanding relationship with fellow comedian Adam Sandler with whom James starred in Pixels, Grown Ups 1 and 2, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, and Hubie Halloween. James’ Hollywood relationships doesn’t stop at people, James also has a long time partnership with Netflix as a star in the streamer’s features True Memoirs of an International Assassin and Home Team. James has also dipped his toe in the indie scene, starring in the action thriller Becky. What can’t he do?
James has once again returned to his roots in stand-up in his Prime Video comedy special, Irregardless. The special will have you laughing at just how fear-focused this world is. James brings light to our anxieties through poking fun at being prediabetic (isn’t everyone prediabetic?). James admits to getting older and of course makes fun of it. He also covers marriage and parenting, specifically the art of getting children to put down their video games. Just because James is a father now doesn’t mean he isn’t a child himself. Irregardless of what people may think, James proudly proclaims how many tater tots he can fit in his mouth in his newest special.
