Around this time every year (typically the week after Thanksgiving), Spotify rolls out its illustrious & popular Spotify Wrapped campaign. The annual campaign where both music & podcast listeners on the streaming service get a closer, personal look back & recap at how they soundtracked their year. Spotify, in particular, pulls out all the stops to make this an anticipated & celebrated event each year with the help of how personalized it makes the end of year results for its listeners.
And today, it released its lists celebrating the most listened to artists, songs & podcasts of the year, including top comedy podcasts in the U.S. in 2024. Leading the top spots are The Joe Rogan Experience, Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper & This Past Weekend with Theo Von (all of whom made the Top 10 Podcasts Globally list).
Comedy podcasts in particular have never been bigger & more influential then they have in 2024. Jordan Newman, Spotify’s head of content partnerships, shared in a statement: “More than half a billion people have listened to a podcast on Spotify since we entered the space in 2019 and we can officially say: 2024 was another great year for podcasts.”
For Joe Rogan, following the end of his multiyear distribution & ad-sales deal with the streamer, he returned to posting full episodes on YouTube this year & notably welcomed president-elect Donald Trump on his show shortly before this year's presidential election. Among his other notable guests from this year have included Adam Sandler, Katt Williams, vice president-elect JD Vance, Elon Musk, Dave Chappelle & Joey Diaz to name a few.
Similarly to Rogan, Alex Cooper & Theo Von both made notable impacts on this year's presidential election with the guests they pulled on their respective shows. Cooper notably welcomed democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on her popular show Call Her Daddy. Von welcomed Trump, Vance as well as senator Bernie Sanders (whose episode came out the same week as Trump's) on This Past Weekend. Beyond political candidates, Von also welcomed Post Malone, Shane Gillis, Bobby Lee, Ed Sheeran & Nikki Glaser to name a few.
