Comedy fans can expect to see legendary SNL alum Maya Rudolph hanging around Studio 8H more often this upcoming 50th season of Saturday Night Live!

Today, it was announced by Deadline that Rudolph will be returning to the show somewhat regularly to reprise her fan favorite & stand-out role as Vice President Kamala Harris throughout the 2024 Presidential Election Cycle this Fall. She first played the political figure in the Cold Open of Eddie Murphy's 2019 episode of the late night comedy series. This casting update follows news a few weeks back when President Joe Biden announced that he is dropping out of the 2024 Election, having VP Harris emerging as the presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee. So naturally, the opportunity to have Rudolph play the political figure couldn't have come at a better time.

Rudolph was set to begin production on season three of her hit Apple TV+ & Emmy award nominated comedy series Loot at the end of August, but now plans have changed so she can commit to playing Harris regularly on SNL this season. This similar casting strategy was used in the lead up to the 2020 election when the show hired Jim Carrey to portray Joe Biden during that election cycle.

Rudolph is currently nominated for four Emmys this year for her work on Loot & for her most recent time hosting SNL earlier this year. The excitement for SNL's 50th season couldn't be more anticipated.

When does Saturday Night Live return for its 50th season?

The show returns to NBC on September 28th!
