Since his debut in 2014, Seth Meyers has been joined in his show by the 8G Band. As Meyers was trying to find his own as a late-night host, he felt safe having the band by his side. Sadly, budget cuts have trickled down to the show, and they will be moving forward without the band.
Seth Meyers & Fred Armisen reflect on the past decade of the 8G Band on "Late Night."
Last night, Meyers brought on his old Saturday Night Live castmate and Late Night With Seth Meyers’ bandleader, Fred Armisen. Armisen talks about how he approached writing short songs for each show, and also wanting the sound to be sort of indie rock and punk, which he felt was a good sound to have for a late-night show. They also discussed how he got involved and having over 200 guest drummers on the show when Armisen had another gig.
Seth then turned it over to the band to close the show out. Joined by Armisen and Bob Mould, the band performed for the last time on the show. The song they performed was Makes No Sense At All.
It’s definitely a new era for Seth Meyers, and also symbolizes a new era for late-night. Things do have to evolve, we realize, but having a live band is a feeling that cannot be replicated. They will definitely be missed.
