After he “failed in New York”, his words to Seth Meyers, Brooks Wheelan made the trek up to Alaska where he toured small towns across the giant state for two weeks, culminating in his latest special Alive In Alaska.

The tour allowed Wheelan to hone his five minutes on Alaska and catch a dying Salmon with his bare hands. However, all he managed to get from the Alaskans was a resigned, “yeah…” as he told Meyers who produced the special, “nothing can impress people in Alaska.”

Wheelan has now returned to New York where he has a residency at the Beacon Theater alongside John Oliver and Seth Meyers. Wheelan first met Meyers by being a cast member on Saturday Night Live during the 2013-2014 season. As Wheelan rhetorically asks the studio audience of Late Night with Seth Meyers, “I don’t know if you’ve ever been fired off SNL but dang it’ll…it’ll hurt your feelings.” This however is not the end to Wheelan’s television career. Wheelan has appeared on Girls, AP Bio, MTV’s Ridiculousness, and his dear friend and fellow Spider League enthusiast Tim Robinson’s I Think You Should Leave.

Wheelan has also had a long running relationship with Comedy Central who released his half hour special on an episode of their series The Half Hour. Wheelan is all over the Comedy Central canon appearing in This Is Not Happening, Adam Devine’s House Party, and was named one of Comedy Central’s 10 comics to watch in 2012. The comedy channel has also had Wheelan perform at their South Beach Comedy Festival. Wheelan has made the rounds in the festival circuit, performing at SXSW, Sasquatch Music and Arts Festival, Moontower Comedy Festival, Bridgetown Comedy Festival, and most notably at Montreal Just For Laughs Festival in 2013, 2014, and 2016. Wheelan’s dedication to the festival space has led to RollingStone naming him as one of the top 45 acts from the 2014 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

In addition to his appearances on Late Night with Seth Meyers, he also performed on Conan leading up to the release of his debut comedy album This is cool, Right? which was hailed by many outlets as one of the best comedy albums of 2015 after earning the #1 slot among comedy albums on iTunes following its release.

Alive In Alaska is the culmination of Wheelan’s experience and failures. In this special, Wheelan lays it all out as he admits doing a tour in the Alaskan Wilderness may not have been the most financially nor logistically responsible choice. In addition to his Alaskan material, Wheelan talks about how he wishes he could smoke weed, not understanding how to order wine, and how Red Lobster holds a special place in his heart to a sold out crowd in Anchorage.
