Pierre Novellie Gives Us An Hour Of Enjoyment With His Latest Special, “Why Can’t I Just Enjoy Things?”

Everything is mediocre for Pierre Novellie. The award-winning comedian tends to rate things a 6/10 and rarely agrees with anyone else on what is great or not. Novellie explains his cynical predicament in his newest special Why Can’t I Enjoy Things?, which has already been adapted into a non-fiction book published by Bonnier in 2024.

Like many stand-up comedians, Novellie wears many hats. From being a writer, radio host, podcaster, and most importantly a stand-up comedian, Novellie keeps busy. His voice work includes co-hosting The Frank Skinner Show on Absolute Radio, performing on The Now Show on Radio 4, hosting the BBC Sounds podcast series Obsessed With …SAS: Rogue Heroes, and co-hosting the popular podcast Budpod with Phil Wang. Novellie has also appeared on TV shows such as World’s Most Dangerous Roads on Dave, The Mash Report on BBC2, and Stand Up Central on Comedy Central. As a writer, Novellie has written for Spitting Image on ITV/Britbox, Mock the Week on BBC2, The News Quiz Radio 4 and, along with appearing on it, The Mash Report on BBC2.

Novellie’s debut special, Quiet Ones, is out now on YouTube with over 250,000 views online with The Guardian calling it the “dawn of a major talent.” His new special, Why Can’t I Just Enjoy Things?, had a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, making it Novellie’s third show to have been placed in the top 20 best-reviewed comedy shows across the entire festival. The special covers the all too relatable dissatisfaction that comes with being human and wishing you could just enjoy life in bliss. After perfecting his hour at the Soho Theatre, Novellie took Why Can’t I Enjoy Things? on a nationwide tour before filming the special at The Monkey Barrel in Endinburgh.
