John Mulaney is continuing his relationship with Netflix to host a new weekly live variety talk show beginning in 2025. The news was announced today by Netflix's Chief Content Officer Bela Bajara at the Bloomberg Screentime conference in LA. “So for next year, for 2025, we’re doing a variety live talk show with John Mulaney, which I’m super excited about," she announced today.
This new series order follows the premiere of Mulaney's limited run live late night show Everybody's In LA during Netflix Is A Joke Fest, which met with rave reviews and featured tons of special guests like Nikki Glaser, Mike Birbiglia, Jerry Seinfeld, Nate Bargatze, David Letterman & announcer Richard Kind to name a few.
Everything we know so far about the new John Mulaney variety live talk show on Netflix.
The streaming service appears to not only be doubling down on their investment on the Emmy-award winning comedian & former Saturday Night Live writer, but also continuing their overall investment into live stream content adding on live streams from this year including new comedy specials like Katt Williams: Woke Foke, Joe Rogan: Burn The Boats & the Roast of Tom Brady.
Bajara continues, "So we have a long relationship with John, obviously, and we have done his stand up specials and during Netflix is a Joke Festival he did a live talk show called ‘Everybody’s in LA’ and I was there at a couple of the tapings, and it was just so bold and original and fresh and then unpredictable. And I think it’ll be really fun to get to do a live show with him."
But now instead of a limited run, they're wanting to try out a new weekly show with Mulaney, Bajara adding “if we build a weekly live talk/variety, what does that look like? I think the live will be interesting to see. Also, he’s just wildly talented and really creative.”
Details & title for the show are under wraps at the moment, but the streaming service did indeed confirm it's premiering in 2025.
Ahead of the forthcoming live variety talk show, Mulaney will be returning to host SNL for the sixth time on November 2nd with musical guest Chappell Roan. And in December, he'll be teaming with comedian & fellow SNL collaborator Simon Rich on the new broadway show All In: Comedy About Love alongside Fred Armisen, Richard Kind, Chloe Fineman & recently announced for the same show in January will star Jimmy Fallon, Aidy Bryant, & Lin-Manuel Miranda to name a few.
